The Product Marketing Company is celebrating its 10th birthday this year. This might not seem like a big milestone for many, but in the world of design and marketing it’s a huge achievement.

We knew when we started out that growing a B2B marketing agency from scratch would take time and real determination. Competition is strong so we had to build a team of really talented individuals and build trust by delivering outstanding work along with a really personal service – you can only do this if you are totally passionate about what you do.

Talking to our customers is a big part of what we do, not only so that we understand their business almost as well as they do, but because we want to educate them about marketing so that they can stand on their own two feet in the future.

Today, TPMC is listed among the top 70 B2B marketing agencies in the UK and among the top 24 PR agencies in the UK*. That’s not bad in just 10 years and must say something about what we do and what we have achieved, so we’re more than a little chuffed!

Why are agencies so important for businesses?

Creative marketing agencies have been the backbone of businesses for decades, not just for business to consumer brands, but increasingly for business to business. Agencies offer a unique set of skills and expertise that can be tapped into: business and marketing consultancy, branding, conceptual design, marketing communications, along with a plethora of knowledge and experience about what works and what doesn’t which comes from working with hundreds of different businesses.

Digital has changed marketing but the principles remain the same

The playing field is changing for marketing agencies; business are becoming much more savvy about digital marketing and many are adopting the in-house approach and employing digital marketers in the hope that they can tick all of the boxes and get their messages out through multiple channels. We agree that this is a good thing for businesses, however, we see digital as only one aspect of marketing.

Agencies really come into their own when it comes to branding, strategy and messaging – they can get to the heart of what the brand stands for and clearly identify its audiences and how to reach them, and then the in-house team can kick-in! Highly experienced marketers have their finger on the pulse when it comes to trends, audiences, tactics and strategic planning, through which businesses will get the best ROI.

Creativity can make or break a marketing plan

Creative design is more important than ever because it needs to cut through so much noise. Marketing must start with getting someone’s attention. The AIDA model has been around for decades and is still as relevant today; Attention, Interest, Desire, Action – the model never fails but the creativity can.

Agency designers are incredibly skilled at coming up with ideas and concepts that can transform brand perception and credibility – they know how to draw out emotional responses through a concept or set of graphics and create a brand message that people want to share and talk about. Creativity is an investment – if your messaging is clever and powerful, people will think that you are too!

Like all businesses, the creative industry is having to continually adapt and it’s our job to do the thinking, the innovating and the wowing for you! The last 10 years has been a blast for us here at TPMC. Yes there are times when the coffee has hit the wall, but the image that it leaves behind is usually the beginning of another sensational idea!

Thank you to all of our friends, families, customers, creative beings and our doggies for putting up with our ramblings, the long hours and our incessant drive to be better. Here’s to the next 10!
